Cairn Terrier Pictures

Cairn Terrier pictures feature small terriers with short legs and wavy coat. The head of these dogs is wider and shorter than in other terriers. Long and soft hair on the muzzle creates a unique foxy expression of the Cairn Terrier. The head of the Cairn Terrier has a well defined stop. The eyes are sunken, set wide apart, hazel in color, with a keen expression typical of all terriers. The ears in this breed are small, pointed, and carried erect.

In Cairn Terrier pictures, you’ll see that all purebred dogs are similar in size: around 9-10 inches at the withers. Cairn Terriers should be well-proportioned. Long-legged or short-legged dogs as well as too short and too long dogs are disqualified from the show ring. The body of the Cairn Terrier should be well-muscled, compact, with deep ribs and level back. The shoulders are sloping; the legs are straight, with forefeet larger than hind feet. The tail should be well furnished, but not feathery. It should be carried gaily, but not curled over the back.

The hallmark of the breed that can be seen in all Cairn Terrier pictures is its long double coat. A soft furry undercoat and long outer coat protect the dog from cold and rain. Any coat color is accepted in this breed except white. The ears, muzzle, and tail tip should be darker than the body.

To compete in conformation, obedience, or agility, purebred dogs should conform to the strict breed standard. There are many faults that disqualify dogs from the show ring and make them suited for the role of a family companion only. In Cairn Terriers, such faults are: too narrow skull, too long muzzle, overshot or undershot bite, light-colored or flesh nose, too large, prominent, or yellow eyes, too large, covered with long hair, high or close set ears, too light or too heavy bone in the legs, crooked forelegs, too short or too long body with an impression of weakness, low set tail, open coat, lack of furnishing on the head, and white patches. All these faults can be seen on the Cairn Terrier pictures.
